Cacao Shell Tea
8 ounces tea in a reusable tin
The Outside Institute, an organization that offers nature-based education in the Catskills, makes this rich chocolatey tea accented with spicebush berries, the fruit of a native tree (Lindera benzoin) sometimes referred to as "Appalachian allspice." Made from roasted cacao shells—the husks of the cacao bean—it is rich in magnesium, antioxidants and minerals and also contains theobromine, a mild stimulant similar to caffeine that provides a gentle pick-me-up, plus two mood-boosting “bliss” chemicals, anandamide & phenethylamine. Brew it with water, any type of milk or a combination.
Ingredients: cacao shells, spicebush berries, sea salt.
